The Proletariat Aristrocrat

On Thursday, the new maid (um, housekeeper) is coming in to do a deep cleaning of the whole house. Let me back up a bit. Since I've been having a hard time making my house payments (California ya' know), I've decided to rent out a room. I'll have some extra money coming in, but I'll also have another person in the house. I decided that the easiest way to avoid conflicts of "who's going to clean this up" would be to spend a part of the money on a housekeeper.

Oh by the way, Kim in my new tenant. Hi Kim. I think it'll work out. She's saving money, and I'm making money - which is exactly what we both needed financially. As long as we don't kill each other because of our respective t.v. viewing habits, I think we'll be fine.

In talking to people, it turns out that there are lots of people with housekeepers. Do we call them housekeepers or maids? I guess it's housekeeper because even though the definition of housekeeper includes the word "housewife", the definition of "maid" includes the phrase "an unmarried virgin".

Comments:
I guess that I am a "housekeeper" since I am, in fact, a "house wife" or "stay-at-home mom". But, honestly, for those of you who think a "stay-at-home mom" or "house wife" have it easy, like my son, let me just say that I am more like a servant in my own home. I spend my days cleaning, doing laundy, paying the bills, picking up after EVERYONE, doing the shopping, playing chauffer, etc. The house looks great everyday until the boys come home from school then it looks like a bomb went off! My 14 year old actually told me a couple days ago, "You are so lucky. All you do is sit around all day and I have to go to school. It's not like you have to go to work everyday". Well, he will certainly be in for an eye opener when this weekend comes around and he has to spend his Saturday doing all that I do...less shopping and paying bills. It will make this "little man" realize that I truly do have a job, just not one I get paid for, and that I work hard everyday...harder than he works in school. When I "retired" I thought it would be easy but after almost 6 years of being home I have realized that I work harder now than I did when I worked out of the home!

We call ours "the cleaners".
