Farewell to America (Part I)

With a bit of grace, a friend and I were able to move my bed and Mission dresser into storage (Thanks J), and now everything looks empty. The walls are bare. The carpets have little impressions of where things used to be. The kitchen cabinets make a hollow noise when they're closed. The "home" has turned into a "house" again; ready for the next breathe of a new owner.

I've been slowly saying goodbye to the neighbors I've been able to know. I fear that the neighborhood is going to slam shut again like it was when I first arrived. When I first arrived, I decided that I was going to know my neighbors, even if it meant being thought of as a weirdo. To have joy when they have joy, and to have sorrow when they have sorrow. There have been a few times of both with some. Others still ignore me, but that's their loss.

I took another look at the 5'x10' box that all my worldly possessions were going to fit into. Then, I took another look at the stuff I owned. I opted for a 10'x10' box for all my worldly possessions. Frankly, most of it is either yard sale fodder or out & out garbage, but I don't have time for a yard sale or an extra trip to the dumps.

I've held onto a few things temporarily; a Bible, a clock radio, a television (and some documentaries on TiVo), a sleeping bag and some clothes. That's all I'll need for the next week. I need to pack everything else I'm going to need for the next few weeks as I say farewell to America! (Part I)
