One of many false teachers
I know I bash a lot on this blog, but some people/sects need bashing in the hopes that others will flee from their false teachings. Unfortunately, in the end days people will have itching ears to hear what they want, and people like Joel Osteen is feeding it to them. Joel Osteen is lying to thousands of people every week.
Let's take a look at Ephesians 1:4:
Joel Osteen's Bible - "Long before God laid down earth's foundation He had us on His mind. Because of the sacrifice Christ made, we are free people and not just barely free but abundantly free." (apparently to be free from debt and illness)

The Message (The loosest possible translation) - "Long before he laid down earth's foundations, he had us in mind, had settled on us as the focus of his love, to be made whole and holy by his love. Long, long ago he decided to adopt us into his family through Jesus Christ."

The Bible - "According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love."

OSTEEN'S CREED (with corrections):
This is my Bible.
(*His* Bible - not *The* Bible. He changes words to suit his prosperity gospel purpose)
I am what it says I am.
(The Bible says that we are dirty, rotten, no good sinners)
I have what it says I have.
(The Bible says that even if we live in want, we should be content)
I can do what it says I can do.
(The Bible says that all our deeds of righteousness are like filthy rags before God)
Today I will be taught the Word of God.
(Every Sunday, people are mislead by the teachings of a heritic)
I boldly confess my mind is alert, my heart is receptive.
(When they should be boldly confessing they are sinners and in need of grace)
I will never be the same.
(That's for sure)
I am about to receive the incorruptible, indestructible, ever-living seed of the Word of God.
(Which has been corrupted and destroyed by a temporal being - Joel Osteen)
I will never be the same.
(That's for sure)
Never, never, never.
I will never be the same. In Jesus name.
Amen.

#1. I agree with you about Joel Osteen. (I do think you are reading too much into his "creed", but hey, you hit it on the head as far as I'm concerned.)
#2. If nothing else, this clearly illustrates the dangers involved when one person attempts to understand the entire will and word of God all by themselves. Whether the translation is 100% accurate, has some books removed as does the King James Bible, or is completely paraphrased, casuallized, slangified and basturdized as is "The Message", one person alone couldn't possibly interperet everything properly on his own, let alone even begin comprehend the full magnitude of God's plan for even one's own little life without having an interpretive body apart from just his own mind. Especially not if they have a day job too. One human alone is not enough because no matter how hard one tries, and no matter how much help they ask for from God, one cannot escape the influence of one's own mind. We will always get in our own way because we are all sinners and therefore, we are never entirely full of the Holy Spirit nor are we ever entirely within God's perfect grace.* This is by our own choosing because our sins are by our own choosing. Any one person cannot be objective enough to get past the filter of their own self. One man with his Bible can be a very dangerous thing because the bottom line is: when left to our own devices, we each see what we want to see.
"By my own strength, I can do nothing."
(Or something to that effect...)
*(If need be, please allow me time in the future to verify that statement if you don't mind. Remind me.)
