Hurricane Wilma

On the one side, it's a good thing we're only going snuba diving in Cozumel, because it looks like Wilma is headed straight for it. On the other side, how sad it is to have the largest hurricane in recorded history go through your little island town. I'm not sure what, if anything, will be left when we get there on Thursday, but here's hoping that Wilma just veers off course and dies quietly in the ocean somewhere where she can't hurt anyone.

I heard that the Coral Princess won't be going there on Sunday because the hurricane will still be too close. Bummer for anyone who really had their hearts set on seeing the ruins.

Murphy vs. Darwin

So, I'm not sure if it's Murphy's Law if Hurricane Wilma ruins my vacation, or Darwin's Law if I decide to go anyway. And I always thought I'd be shot on the ship - not die on my way to it.

Picture Page

My camera's been filling up with pictures from various events. Since my new memory card holds hundreds of pictures, I sometimes forget that I need to get them out of the camera and onto something else.

Anywho, here are two recent ones...

Susi, from her visit last weekend on her way to Hawaii.

Pirate costume, about 90% done and looking fantastic if I do say so myself.

Metrosexual

So, I did it! I got my shoulders waxed on Friday night. They were never really hairy - like monkey hairy. There was just this tuft of hair below my neckline that I was never really happy with, but always too content with myself to do anything about it. I also never thought I would ever pay someone to do this to me, but I figured that I've already spent so much time and money on this trip, I may as well go all out. It's smooth like a babies bottom now, so I'm considering doing everything! Well, maybe not "everything". I'll keep my legs and chest. I also have some reservations about how much of myself am I willing to expose to the woman who did it. ;-)

Anywho, in typical do-all fashion on Friday, I also got a haircut, picked up two new tuxedo shirts (latest style - yadda yadda), sewed a little on my costume because I had to figure out the sleeves before the weekend started. In the meanwhile, I did some laundry and had some dinner. A few dishes in the dishwasher later, I was off to bed. I was pooped, but felt good about all the progress I'd made in my home/work/personal life.

Woke up Saturday morning like gangbusters and drove up to the city to be with Mom for her birthday; where I slowly drifted off. Did you notice the semicolon? Dramatic, hun? I'm practicing for NaNoWriMo! I had so much fun last year - and very nearly wrote a novel, that even though I'll be living the Life Of Riley in the Caribbean, I'm going to really try to get some more clear thoughts out of my 2 1/2 pounds of grey matter onto paper. Err, digits. Err, ascii - you knowwhatimean.

O.K. since I really don't want to work and shouldn't because I dont' want to change anything and risk it breaking - I'm off to pursue my other new hobby ---> Texas hold 'em on Yahoo! Games.....

Porn

Got your attention, didn't I? I was reading a "best practices" paper online for helping me optimize my database work and one of the comments was, "Dirty pages steal cleaner triggers." I'm either really tired, or that's actually funny.

It's been an absolutely CRAZY couple of weeks this week. Yeah, that's what I meant. I left work after 10 pm last night and I was back this morning at 5:30 am. Needless to say, I'm dog-tired. I'm going to get a haircut, buy some tuxedo shirts, work on my costume, do some laundry, make dinner and go to bed early. ;-)

As for porn, I'm happy to say that I don't date women whose names end in .jpg

Swingin' from trees or swimmin' with fish?

I've been talked out of our Ocho Rios excursion of river tubing from the Spanish bridge for a new "hottest sensation" excursion of canopy soaring.
This URL sorta describes the two excursions, but there's just too many good ones to pick from in Jamaica. I'm definitely going to return someday. I want to spend a whole day at Dunn's Falls.

Now, my next big purchase for the cruise is going to be an underwater camera (I think). I can't find one that I like, and time is quickly running the sand to the bottom of the glass. Actually, there is camera that I'd like, but the Canon EOS-1D is a bit outside the price range of electronics I'm comfortable bringing 15 feet under water.

My second choice was the S2-1S, but they don't have an underwater kit available. And it's not likely that they'll have one in the next two weeks.

My third choice (yes, I'm settling again) is an Olympus C-8080. 8 megapixels and 8x optical zoom. Of course I won't use the zoom underwater (less I forget the inverse squared properties of light and magnification - doi!), but I don't want to bring more than one camera on vacation.

I am your father

What is it about a hollow paper tube that makes us put it to our mouths and state firmly, "Luke, I am your father."
